Flatastic Beasts almost 8 weeks old

It is amazing how my sense of time has disappeared whilst I am absorbed in raising the Beast litter. Last weekend they had the puppy test from the Dutch Flatcoated Retriever Club FRC. The test showed that these boys and girls have a very strong exploration drive and that they are very secure and brave puppies. Some have more interest in humans than others – it was very obvious that’s these pups are bred to hunt.

Daisy waiting for her turn

We had our own puppy test too where we approached their eager to explore and connect slightly different – I found it very interesting to see how the individual pups reacted and the difference between the two tests.

Daisy falling into water bassin during test – not any hesitance at all ..
Little 🖤 bitch showed a touching resemblance of eagerness and drive with her mother Lotte and grandmother Rumi. For a long time I have been stuck between the choice of this wonderful girl or the liver bitch.. so this little funny speedy Gonzales will have a special place in my heart forever

After all the testing this weekend,Monday was the big day for all buyers – they received a phone call from me telling which dog is matched with them. I am very pleased because the matches fit very well and I am so thrilled that all dogs will be brought to gun dog training and several dogs will be practical hunting dogs.

As I find them rather eye soothing too, Anita and I held another photoshoot. Here they all are – 7 weeks and 5 days old:

New Member of the Flatastic Family

It is with great joy that I may present to you our newest addition to the Flatastic Family. A grand daughter of Rumi – daughter of Lotte:

Flatastic Bowtruckle by pedigree and she will carry the name of “Daisy” inspired by her sweet flower energy 🌼

We are very pleased with this girl who has the lovely temperament of her father and the determination and will of her mother. Her bonus feature is the lovely dark liver color 🤎

6 weeks old Beast litter

Here are some of our favorite photos from the now 6 weeks old puppies. They have all had their blood work done for checking if they are protected with mom’s antibodies from birth and all were good for at least the next 4 weeks. As a breeder however I have decided to have them bloodtested earlier than recommended as the puppies then can have the tests done at our home in a safe environment. Otherwise they would need to have them done shortly after leaving their mom and siblings at a point where they have not yet build a secure bond with their new owners.

Here are some pictures from the past week:

Let me introduce the Flatastic Beasts

4th week of the Flatastic Beast litter

All pups are still thriving and growing well. They have started to play with eachother and with us. Mostly it involves biting and attacking, but luckily they do also still cuddle with me.

Flatastic Beast litter 3rd week

All puppies are doing well – Lotte had a bit of an energy collaps as eating all the pooh from 8 puppies had upset her stomach. This resulted in us deciding to start offering the small ones solid food a bit earlier than anticipated. They love their new food and by doing so Lotte had some more space to recover. She is now back in full service shape.

We are very busy providing the first stimili in order for the pups to obtain socialization. This week we have introduced tactical surfaces such as toilet gravel and a silicone mat. Alongside that the first scent of game has been introduced as well.
